About the Program

Great Performances: The Little Mermaid From San Francisco Ballet
was featured in the 2011 PBS Arts Fall Festival.

Premiere Date: December 16, 2011

Meet the principal dancers, choreographer John Neumeier and composer Lera Auerbach of San Francisco Ballet's production of The Little Mermaid. Hamburg Ballet Director and Chief Choreographer John Neumeier also designed sets, costumes and lighting for this new interpretation of Hans Christian Andersen tale, which was recorded in San Francisco in May 2011.

The interviews in this exhibit show how the show developed dramatically and creatively and explore how the performers learned to interpret the classic Hans Christian Andersen story through dance.

Great Performances: The Little Mermaid From San Francisco Ballet was produced by San Francisco Ballet Association and produced and presented by WNET. Discover more content with Great Performances.
